Modern and Medieval Languages: Home

A colour photo of the MMLL Library lobby, with people standing next to the self-service machineThe Modern & Medieval Languages and Linguistics Library holds more than 115,000 books, periodicals and DVDs. The Library provides material for the 10 taught languages in MMLL, as well as medieval European languages, and linguistics. Students taking the MMLL Tripos, the MPhil in Film & Screen Studies and the MPhil in European, Latin American & Comparative Literatures & Cultures should find most of the reading list material for their studies here, including multiple copies of high-demand titles.

Please check the Linguistics LibGuide to find Theoretical & Applied Linguistics resources, and Film & Screen Studies LibGuide to find out about film collections and resources. Language courses are often interdisciplinary - make sure to consult our "Curated Resources" page for full information.

For more information, you can always visit the MMLL Library website or contact us directly. We are always happy to hear from you!

COVID-19 and the MMLL Library

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed some ways of accessing the Library and its resources. We are fully committed to the safety of library staff and users, and follow Public Health England, government and university advice to ensure the safe and smooth running of our services.

We have some CO2 monitors in the Library which indicate when the air is too stale, and we may need to open some windows from time to time to refresh the air quality. So remember to bring a jumper with you, as we move into autumn and winter!

We understand that some of our users may still need to be careful and avoid infections as much as possible. You are most welcome to continue wearing a face mask, and we have some single user tables in the Library, as well as plenty of hand sanitiser dotted around the whole Library. We are also very happy to wear a mask during one-to-ones and conversations in more confined spaces; do let us know if there's anything else we can do to support you.

MMLL Library currently provides a range of services, such as:

Please check the 'Welcome to 2023/24' page of this LibGuide to learn more about the MMLL Library services this year. Updates on our services are available on the MMLL Library website. Updates on the libraries' opening hours and changes to library services are also published on the University Library FAQ page.
