Jesus College: Welcome to 2025-2026

Welcome

Hello and if you are a new student welcome, and if you are returning, welcome back!

This page introduces you to Cambridge libraries, and the services to be aware of during Michaelmas Term and the academic year 2025-2026.

We have separated it out into resources you can access and that will help you to get to grips with studying here before you arrive, everything you need to do and set up when you arrive, and then resources when you finally have time for them going forward! But you can use all these resources throughout the year and your time here at Jesus College, especially the CamGuides.

Before you arrive

CamGuides demystify studying at Cambridge. There are separate guides for Undergraduates, Master's students and PhDs. They include software you might want to use, academic skills to develop, finding resources, terminology and a week in the life. Essentially they try to introduce concepts and skills you might need when you arrive and so, if you manage to look through them beforehand, the guides will save you stress and time during your first few weeks (and after).

Quincentenary Library Video Tour - If you want to see the Library before you arrive, have a refresher if you haven't been for a while or get to know the place to reduce anxiety, this video will show you round. It covers where things are, the types of study spaces and indicates what the Library has to offer.

Moodle - You can book a Library induction tour for the start of Michaelmas Term via the Tutorial site on Moodle. Student inductions are mandatory otherwise you can't access the Library or the Kwok computer room. If you are a member of staff, a fellow, would prefer a personal tour 1-to-1, have accessibility requirements, or it's another time of year just email us.

When you arrive

Finding an item - If you are unsure how to find anything on the Library shelves, ask a librarian or an invigilator for help. All you have to do is look up the details on iDiscover, such as title and author of a book, filter it to Jesus College, check the availability of the item, note down the classmark or call number of the item and then find it on the shelf. As a starting point, Philosophy and the Sciences are on the second floor, Arts and Humanities are on the first floor and Law, Criminology and Politics are on the ground floor.

Maps - We have maps on the walls and hand-out maps on the ground floor showing you where each section or collection is, but here are links to maps for each floor: Ground floor mapFirst floor map and Second floor map

Contact details - You can email us or phone us on +44 (0)1223 339451.

Library Team - You can find out more about Rhona, Diana and Sarah on this page.

Self-guided tour - Fun and informative! Do our self-guided tour, solve the clues and get to know our Library at the same time. There is a small prize for one winner!

JNet IT - Don't wait until you first need to use it, get set-up with the Wi-Fi and Printing straightaway. The College primarily uses Eduroam for Wi-Fi and Web Print for printing. We also have handout guides for getting started with IT services and more in-depth guides on printing, scanning and the Wi-Fi. These can be found in the Library foyer. The IT team can help with any technical questions.

The video is only viewable if you accept cookies. A 'Manage Cookies' button is available at the bottom left corner of every page, where you can update/save your preferences.

Going forward

Other pages on this LibGuide you should be aware of include using the Library, using other libraries, library resources, library skills such as reading lists and ebooks, accessibility, and academic skills, reference management for example. The library team can support you in all these aspects of using libraries and studying in Cambridge.

Some of our Library resources you might want to use include: the collections of Light Reading for reading for pleasure, Board Games, Jigsaws, Graphic Novels and Children's Books. We also have personal welfare and study skills collections.

If you wish to recommend anything, we always welcome suggestions. Just email us!

It's never too early to think about what you want to do when you finish, so make use of the Careers Service while you're here.
