The Quincentenary Library always welcomes offers of donations, not only of books, but also other materials. We accept:
We do not accept:
We are grateful to donors who have helped to bolster and broaden our collections and contributed to the history of our Library. However, due to space constraints and the staff time needed to process donations, consideration has to be given to the usefulness of the item(s) and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the collection before anything is accepted.
When donating material to the Library, please adhere to the Library’s donations procedure below:
Offering a donation
For Quincentenary Library donations, potential donors should email the Quincentenary Librarian in the first instance. Donations cannot be collected; donors must arrange delivery
Donations by, about or from members of the College are especially welcome, particularly where they add to the College's well-established collections of works by or about Jesuans. For Jesuan books, please email the Old Library. For papers and other items, please email Archives
Donations cannot be kept in a separate collection. If possible, please send a list of the books and other materials, so they can be selected for usefulness. If this is not possible, the Library may only accept part of a proposed donation and suggest alternative arrangements
Items donated without prior contact or donated anonymously will be handled at the discretion of Library staff
Any unwanted items may be offered to other parties, or for sale to current students and staff; the proceeds of any sale will go into the Library budget and towards the purchase of further items.
Conditions of acceptance
Books received by donation become property of the Library and will be integrated into the Library’s collections at the direction of Library staff, who will make all necessary decisions as to cataloguing, access, use and retention. The Library reserves the right to dispose of unwanted material by whatever means the Librarian judges most appropriate. Items may be withdrawn at a later date when damaged, superseded by new editions/titles, or no longer relevant.
Acknowledgement of donations
Unless notified otherwise, Library staff will not add a bookplate inside the front of the book. Please notify Library staff at the point of donation if you wish us to insert a bookplate.
Future visits to view the donation by the donor, family or friends must be made by prior appointment.
Special Collections material
Donors wishing to give rare or unique material to the Library should email the Old Library in the first instance, providing as much information as possible on the extent and type of material being offered. For bequests, please email the Development Office.
We thank you for your interest in donating to Jesus College Library. Please email the Quincentenary Library, Development Office, Old Library or Archives as appropriate if you would like more information.
