Introduction

Academic journeys are exciting, with many wonderful moments. However, things will not necessarily go smoothly all the way. Research shows that 1 in 3 PhD students fight with anxiety or depression at some point of their PhD, a finding made all the more concerning when thinking that this trend has been getting worse, not better.

Everyone encounters setbacks: projects stall, communicating can be difficult at times, competition can get tough ... the good news is that these experiences are not unique and help is available.

So aside from finding sources, processing data, and publishing, here’s a more subtle mission for yourself as you settle into this new role: to successfully navigate the challenges of a PhD without losing sight of your mental health.
