Whether you live in halls, college housing or in private accommodation, your college can still play a crucial life in structuring your social experiences whilst living as a PhD student at the University.
Some social facilities your college may provide for you include:
- The MCR Common Room - a bespoke social space for the exclusive use of post-graduate members of the college
- Dining Hall and College Bar - often the hub of social life within a particular college, college bars are usually for the exclusive use of members of a college and typically serve a range of snacks, soft drinks as well as alcoholic beverages
- Sports teams - away from the central University sports scene, college will typically have teams for inter-mural (or inter-collegiate) sports competition in football, hockey, rugby, netball.
- A boathouse - rowing is a prominent aspect of life here in Cambridge, and most colleges have access to a boathouse and encourage you to get involved in their rowing teams.
- College societies - many colleges host their own smaller academic, arts, cultural or musical societies for members of the college.
- Arts facilities - these may include music practice rooms, concert venues or theatrical facilities
