What is Moodle?

Moodle is the University's major Virtual Learning Environment, and the major software used to support the face to face teaching you will receive here at Cambridge.  It is a popular, flexible piece of software, providing a wide range of versatile online tools, as well as providing a central location to upload academic resources for your various courses.

Moodle is available to all University of Cambridge students, researchers and staff using their CRSid and Raven password.  All you need to access Moodle is a computer, table or smartphone with an appropriate web browsing app (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer).

Auditing Additional Courses

As a student at Cambridge, you have the option to audit almost any course that is offered by the University across departments; this means you can attend the lectures and study the course content without being assessed on it.  If you plan on auditing any courses, there are two pieces of advice we would recommend following:

  1. Emailing the module or course convenor prior to attending the lectures is a good idea and can be polite, particularly if the expected audience is relatively small, but also, and more relevant in terms of Moodle is that...
  2. When contacting the module or course convenor, you should definitely ask for a Moodle enrolment key, which will give you access to all of the course content on Moodle, such as digital lecture notes, crib sheets, etc.

Moodle Support

For users hoping to maximise their experiences using Moodle - from simple solutions to easy navigation to managing and delivering courses online - the University Information Services (UIS) hold regular training courses for students and staff.

For more detailed, personal Moodle support email the Moodle Helpdesk at moodlehelp@uis.cam.ac.uk. This team will be available 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays whilst the University is open.
