As a PhD student here at the University of Cambridge, you have a huge array of software available to you to assist in your research. This software ranges from generic, popular programming helping you streamline your own work or communication to highly specialised, subject-specific programs. 

There is software available to help make notes, structure and enhance your writing, manage referencing, work with and analyse statistics, create equations, design visual sources and posters, and help with your organisation and planning, amongst a variety of more subject specific options.

In this section, we'll outline a selection of the key software options available to you as a PhD researcher here in Cambridge, all linked to the sorts of academic, information, and research practices you may be using. 

Aside from the information given under Essential Systemsall other sub-sections of this CamGuide are optional. It's up to you to critically consider your own needs and choices in terms of software use, always read terms and conditions, and to think carefully before signing up or giving away any personal data.
