Cambridge is a vibrant, exciting city, both from an academic and a social perspective. From guest lectures and reading groups through to theatre, beautiful gardens, art galleries, and sports, there is no shortage of things to do.

From a practical perspective, you'll also find Cambridge well-equipped with supermarkets, banks, bike shops, and places to eat, and the train station gives you easy access to London and many other places.

Key information about living in Cambridge

• There is no shortage of places to eat or drink in Cambridge. There are several large supermarkets outside the city, but the biggest one in Cambridge is the Sainsbury's on Sidney Street.
• Many major banks have branches in Cambridge. Here is a useful list. 
• Many students choose to use bicycles to get around the city, though it's small enough that most places are within walking distance if you'd prefer. There are plenty of options to buy new and second-hand bikes in the city. If you're planning to purchase a bike but haven't cycled for a long time, you may find it useful to watch this guide to cycling, or take a look at this website that helps you find safe cycle routes through the city.
• Other transport options in Cambridge include the bus service and the train station.
• There are several GP surgeries, dentists and clinics in Cambridge, as well as Addenbrooke's, a major hospital. When you arrive, your college will give you advice on signing up with a local GP surgery. Much more information is available on the Student Services website.
