If you require access to something we currently only have in print, please do consider the Scan and Deliver service, or Request a book qualtrics form so we can purchase ebooks for you.

All students and staff of the department can come in to borrow books using our Browse and Borrow service.  You can book a 20 minute slot via our Online Browse and Borrow Form.

What do I need to know before I arrive? 

  • This service is only available for the Department of Engineering staff and students. You will need your University ID card to enter the library. 

  • Booking can be made on our Online Browse and Borrow Form. You must book at least 24 hours in advance. Scroll through the form until you find a slot with available spaces. Please cancel your space if you no longer need it. 

  • You will have a 20min slot to browse the shelves and borrow your items. Please only come in when you are scheduled to do so and please check the location of the books in advance of your visit.

  • Please use a face covering at all times when on Department premises. This includes the library, as well as cycle racks, entrances, corridors and toilets, unless you have a medical exemption. The face covering needs to cover the mouth and nose.

  • Please follow all guidelines advertised in the space and maintain at least two metres distance from other library users

  • Please enter the Department through the main reception door in the Baker Building. The library is on the first floor next to LT 6 and the Design and Project Office (DPO). Please use this main entrace to enter and exit the library.

  • Please do not sit at any of the workspaces, if you want a place to study please Book a Seat instead. 

Test and Trace

In addition to collecting contact details as part of our normal booking process, in line with guidance from the Department for Health and Social Care, we will ask you for your phone number and record the times of your visit in order to reduce the risk of a local outbreak of coronavirus. We will keep these details for 21 days.

All personal data will be held in accordance with the Library’s privacy policy and with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will share your contact details with NHS Test and Trace, if asked, in the event of a fellow user or staff member testing positive for coronavirus. NHS Test and Trace will handle all data according to the highest ethical and security standards and ensure it is used only for the purposes of protecting public health, including minimising the transmission of COVID-19.
