Opening hours

The Library is staffed Monday to Friday 9:00-5:00.

Swipecard access is available out of hours for members of the Department. For building opening hours, see the Department Facilities webpage.

Visitors should make themselves known to the Department Reception and to the Library staff on each visit. If you have a disability or injury that affects your use of the Library, please let us know of any assistance you might need.


Library users can borrow books, theses, journals and DVDs from the Library. The number of items you can borrow and how long you can take them for depends on your status:

  • Undergraduates: 5 items for 7 days
  • Postgraduates: 10 items for 28 days
  • Staff (including Research Staff): 10 items for 28 days
  • Postgraduates (Distance) and Visiting Scholars: 10 items for 56 days

Your Library account

You can check your Library account on iDiscover to see all the items you have from any Cambridge Library and their due dates. You can also renew items online, and place hold requests, via iDiscover
