Physical Resources

Both the library and your faculty can help you access more than just literature and software. You can also get access to certain physical resources such as meeting and workspaces, audio visual equipment, study specific equipment, and more.

Room Bookings

In most department buildings and many of the libraries (including college libraries), there are rooms that can be booked for seminars, supervisions, general meetings, private study and more.  For most departments, all that is needed is to navigate to the respective room booking page, such as this booking page for engineering, and then using your Raven login; we won't list every possible link here but if you are unable to find the page for your department through its respective website, then do check with the reception of the building where you would like to book a room.  You can also use your Raven login to book a room, equipment or parking space university-wide through Booker. If you are doing work that is laboratory based, then you may also need to book laboratory time and this should be discussed with your supervisor.  Do also check our CamGuide on where you will work for related information on finding study spaces.

Audio Visual Equipment

Certain departments can supply audio and visual (AV) equipment, should you need them; for example, the Faculty of Education has an equipment loan service for work and or projects related to research being conducted at the faculty; the Department of Engineering also has an equipment loans scheme that allows students access to a dedicated Content Creation Loan kit including a webcam, microphone and ring light. Different colleges may also have different equipment available for students to make use of. The availability of equipment does vary between departments, so it is worth making inquiries about what equipment your relevant Faculty, Department and College are able to make available to you.

Research Equipment

The Research Facilities and Equipment Sharing Database allows Cambridge researchers to find information regarding equipment available for borrowing across the university, and currently holds details of 70 Facilities and 3400 individual items of equipment available within Cambridge. The database also allowing users access to over 200 facilities situated within Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, Imperial and Southampton. Additionally, you can also search the National Equipment Portal to search for equipment outside the University of Cambridge.
