In this section we will provide you with a brief overview of what to expect once your PhD begins. We will provide details of what happens when you join your research group and what type of induction you can expect as you officially become a PhD student. 

Because becoming a PhD in Cambridge means benefiting from a myriad of networking opportunities, we will also take you through the most exciting aspects of your social life to help you get settled. 

The section also outlines some of the deadlines that you can expect to work towards, particularly in the first year of your PhD when most students will have to pass a formal 'probation' exercise. While we've made every effort to pull together resources and materials that apply to all PhD programmes, please be mindful that some differences can exist between Departments and it is always best to check with your own institute and research group in case you have any doubt.
