Selwyn College Library: Library tour book search handout

Find a book from your reading list

Use iDiscover to find books, ebooks, and journal articles from all Cambridge libraries: https://idiscover.lib.cam.ac.uk/

For this task, you’ll be searching iDiscover for a book in Selwyn Library, then finding it on the shelf.

Your search results may include ebooks. You can click straight through to read these when you are on any Cambridge network and log in to read them wherever you are.

You can limit or filter results to one library or search all libraries. If you limit to a specific library, your search results will only include print books held by that library (not ebooks).

You don’t need to type in the full reference for each book. If your search is unsuccessful with the full title given in your reading list, choose some significant words from the title. You can also add the author's or editor's name, particularly if the title is not enough to distinguish it from other similar titles. If you’re looking for a specific edition, it can help to add in the year of publication or other details specific to that edition.

As an example search, we’ll look for The study skills handbook by Stella Cottrell. This is a book in our Academic Skills & Welfare collection that is also available as an ebook. It is available in several editions, the newest one being the 6th edition published in 2024.

From the results screen, click through to the full record to find the shelfmark for the Selwyn copy and to check that it is currently available to be borrowed.
