Architecture & History of Art: Library services

Please note that the AHA Library is only open by appointment for current students and staff at Cambridge University.

'Book to Consult Reference Material' is there for consulting specific non-borrowable material within the AHA Library collections such as dissertations, GEN REF books, or Electronic Legal Deposit (ELD) books, and not for consulting borrowable items or using as a general study space. Browsing in the library is not permitted. If the item you want is borrowable please use our 'Click and Collect' service instead.

If you do want to consult an ELD book please consider booking a visit to the University Library as they have more designated terminals for this type of material.

When you come for your appointment, please only bring yourself in order to avoid over-crowding in the library spaces.

We appreciate your help in making the library a safe space for learning!

You may order up to five books. In order that we pick the exact copy that you want please copy the permalink from iDiscover into the form. You should expect to collect them 24 hours after you place your order, and we will email you if there is a problem with your request. You should collect your books from the collection point in the library, they will have already been charged to your account. Please follow the one way system using architecture door to enter the library and the main door to leave.

Please sanitise your hands before you enter the library and wear a face covering at all times, unless you have a medical exemption. You should respect other library users and maintain a two metre distance.

If you cannot collect between the hours of 11am - 12.30pm and 2pm - 3:30pm, then email the library on and we can make arrangements to leave the books in a locker for you. Please note that the building is usually open from 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

For AHA staff - if you have a pigeon hole we ask you to email us instead of using the booking system with any item requests. They will be loaned out to you and left in your pigeon hole, you will receive an email when this is done.
