Training for LibGuides editors: 2. Mapping or copying a box

Mapping and copying boxes

LibGuides allows you to reuse existing boxes from any LibGuide within the Cambridge domain. This option is in the second tab when you select 'Add Box'. You will need to know the LibGuide you want to copy from and the name of the box in order to copy it successfully. Be aware of the size of the box you copy, and try to ensure that you are providing a space of a similar size in your LibGuide.

You have the option to copy or map the box. Mapping means that you create an identical copy which cannot be edited. This would be best if you want to store contact details or opening hours on every page of your LibGuide - any changes made to the original LibGuide will reflect in all boxes to which it is mapped.

Copying the box means that you create an identical copy which can be edited. This might be helpful if you like the way that another guide has presented certain information, but you would need to make a change to the content.

You may wish to ask permission to copy a box, or provide attribution, at the bottom of your LibGuide, but neither is required if the box is within the Cambridge domain.
