Education Library: Decolonising Education: Home

Intro to the Guide

This Guide is intended as a starting point for our learning, reflection and practices around ‘Decolonising Education’,
including in relation to the work we do in our research projects, consultancy and teaching. It seeks to support our community in considering implications of colonialism, coloniality – and, of course, decoloniality – to the field of Education more broadly and to our teaching, learning and researching activities in order to re-imagine different – and less oppressive – ways of knowing and learning.

At the heart of this Guide is the understanding that these different ways of knowing and learning will vary across different research areas and topics explored in our work in the Faculty. As a result, this Guide has both a ‘General Readings’ tab (for those seeking a broader introduction to the topics of colonialism, coloniality and decoloniality) and a set of area/topic-related tabs (or ‘categories’) for more specific resources linked to our wide range of expertise within the Faculty.

This is a 'live' LibGuide that we hope to keep building with the help of the Faculty's community, so suggestions are very much welcomed (see ‘Updates/additions to the Guide’ below).

Introductory Reading List

The Cambridge University Libraries Decolonisation Working Group (whose members include student, academic, library, and museum representatives) has put together a very introductory reading list about decolonisation.

The list is for everyone in the University, whether they are exploring decolonisation for the first time or are keen for refresher reading at a further stage.  The aim of the reading list is to provide people with a few pointers to texts and bibliographies about decolonisation rather than to provide an exhaustive list.
