The University Library offers an Inter-Library Loan service which provides access to material not held within Cambridge University whilst also supplying material from its own stock to other libraries.
The Linguistics section of the MMLL Library covers all the main branches of linguistic study and supports the undergraduate Linguistics Tripos as well as the MPhil in Linguistics.
Books are collected in print and electronic format. There is growing emphasis on applied linguistics, including first and second language acquisition. Cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics and computational linguistics are all collecting areas. History of the English language and its varieties is another growth field. Pragmatics is a strength and material on historical linguistics and language change are both collected.
There is more material on specific languages taught in MMLL within each language section. For example:
- F3 French language
- G3 German language
- R3 Russian language
