Whether working on a thesis, dissertation or essay, correct referencing is vital to ensure that you credit all your sources. Each Faculty or Department provides guidelines and information on referencing. There is not always a particular referencing or bibliographic style which you need to use. If no specific style is required then you are free to choose. You can always check with your supervisor for guidance on which referencing style you should choose.
Once you have decided which style to use, the most important point to remember is be consistent. Use the same referencing style for the whole essay/dissertation/thesis.
