English Faculty Library Services: Open Access Resources

Open Access Resources

Google Scholar - use this to start a search for journal articles. It provides a broad view of some of the scholarship available on a subject. Some content is open access but if not, use iDiscover or another library catalogue to find the resource.

Apollo is the institutional repository used at the University of Cambridge, with the aim to store and preserve the University’s research outputs. Research outputs can include, but are not limited to, publications, conference proceedings, book chapters, monographs, theses, research data etc. Most universities will have a repository, if you know which institution the author is affiliated with you may find full text of their publications hosted in their repository.

The blog curated by the eresources team at the University Library has recommendations for OA resources, it includes the Directory of Open Access Journals which has a broad number of journals, searchable by journal title or article.

Also consider the OA sections of big publisher websites e.g. JSTOR and Project Muse and there are two 'Language and Literature' journals in Taylor & Francis's open access section.

Finally, the Public Domain Review contains a vast commons of out-of-copyright material that everyone is free to enjoy, share, and build upon without restriction.
