Borrowing Policies

The table below summarises borrowing rights for current members of and official visitors to the University.

User registration

Valid University or University Library cards are required for registration. Please note that registration takes place on weekdays only between 9am-5pm.

AMES Faculty Staff and Students - already registered with us at the time of your arrival at the University.

Other members - registration required.  Please speak to the member of staff at the issue before borrowing for the first time.

Academic & Support Staff

*Cambridge MAs and graduates of higher degrees, i.e. Masters or PhD (not working for the University), who are residents of Cambridge

2 items 28 days 1 day

*Official academic visitors of the Faculty

5 items 28 days 1 day

*Official Visiting Scholars of the Faculty : a letter on headed paper from the department/faculty stating the duration of stay will be necessary for registration.

*Official Visiting Scholars of other departments and faculties - Reading access only.

* Cambridge MAs and graduates of higher degrees, i.e. Masters or PhD (not working for the University) who are residents of Cambridge: a valid MA card and proof of address will be necessary upon registration.

*Cambridge MAs and graduates of higher degrees, i.e. Masters or PhD (not working for the University) who are not residents of Cambridge: Reading access only.

  • Auto-renewals are in place for our standard loans and will be renewed at regular intervals unless they are recalled.
  • Over the vacation, our standard loans will continue to auto-renew.  These loans cannot be recalled after the end of Term.  Overnight loans can be taken out over the vacation periods.
  • Fines are no longer charged but readers will be blocked from borrowing if they have at least 2 overdue recalled items from any of the University libraries.
