This page gathers together information on returning books and other items to Cambridge libraries this summer. It includes additional information for graduands and others not returning to Cambridge in the autumn.
We're aware that current guidelines mean that you may be unable to return your books for some time. Please be assured that you will not be penalised for being unable to return your books at any time when it is unsafe or inconvenient for you to do so, or when it would contravene local instructions.
If you are planning to return after the summer, we would ask that you keep hold of your books until then, if possible. This will ensure that the returns service is not overwhelmed. Your books will continue to renew for the summer and you should not be fined at any Cambridge library during this period.
If you have any questions about book returns, please do contact the library.
We would be very grateful if you would make arrangements to return any books or other items you have on loan from Selwyn Library and other Cambridge libraries whenever it is safe and convenient for you to do so.
You will find information on this page about returning items in person and by post, but if you have any questions or specific needs, please do contact the library.
You can check your library account to see what you currently have on loan, or you can ask us or any of the libraries you use to send you an emailed report from the library system. Your library account should have been extended until 30 September, and we will be able to use that to keep track of your loans.
If you will be returning to Cambridge for further study, you are welcome to keep hold of your books until your return.
If you have books (or other library materials) from Selwyn or from any Cambridge library that you would like to return whilst you are collecting possessions, the porters will direct you to a drop-off point within college.
These items will be collected by the University Library, sorted, and returned to the correct library when possible.
You may find that these items remain on your library account over the summer, but please do be assured that the UL will be keeping track of their location and they will be removed from your account when they are returned to their owning libraries.
For your own records, it may be a good idea to take a photo of your books before dropping them off.
The dropboxes outside the English Faculty and the Classics Faculty are also available for returns from all Cambridge libraries. Items returned to these dropboxes will also be collected by the UL for sorting, storage, and return.
Books from all Cambridge libraries (including Selwyn Library) can be returned to the University Library at:
Reader Services (Book Returns)
Cambridge University Library
This is to allow you to send all your books back in one parcel, whether by post or by courier.
If you only have books from Selwyn Library to return, you can return them directly to College:
Selwyn College Library (Book Returns)
As with other methods of return, we would recommend you take a picture of the items you are returning before you send them, for your own records. This would be particularly useful should any parcels be lost or damaged in transit.
