The aim of the Education Library is to provide Faculty with an up-to-date collection of material which reflects and supports the current teaching and research needs of both academic staff and students.
The Library acquires books and ebooks on education and subjects such as psychology, philosophy and sociology that relate in particular to education. Textbooks and resource material for use in primary and secondary schools are purchased for the PGCE courses and there is also a collection of children’s fiction to support PhD, MPhil, Undergraduate and PGCE students. Other specialist material includes a psychological test collection for use by academic staff, PhD & MPhil students of the Faculty.
The majority of Education students study at a distance via blended learning or part-time courses and there are only relatively small numbers of full-time students. This is taken into account when making purchasing decisions as most students are therefore not able to access the print resources available at the University Library or elsewhere in Cambridge. Multiple copies are often purchased and material in ebook format is actively acquired, particularly where demand has been demonstrated through the use of print copies.
