This guide features regular and temporary exhibitions in Cambridge colleges and will be updated as new exhibitions and events are announced.

Old Library, Christ's College

Opening hours 2017:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from mid-July to early December and from mid-January to end April, 14:00-16:00 (exact dates are advertised via the website, or can be obtained by phone)


 Disabled access is limited, especially if you use a wheelchair. However, there is a lift available. If possible, please contact us in advance. We normally offer two exhibitions per year. You can receive our library newsletter by contacting and asking to be added to our mailing list. The newsletter reports on upcoming exhibitions and other library-sponsored events such as occasional talks.

Old Library, Queens' College

The library is situated on the first floor of an historic building.  Regrettably, due to the age of the building, there is no lift access to the library.  Access through the War Memorial Library.

This term's exhibition, included as part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas, is entitled 'Exploring the Renaissance mind through the library of Sir Thomas Smith'.  The exhibition centres on the annotated books of Sir Thomas Smith (1513-77) and other Renaissance Queens' scholars, as a means to offer insights into politics and learning in Tudor Cambridge, and the minds of its Renaissance readers.

Monday to Friday, 9:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00


 Group public tours are arranged through the Cambridge Visitor information Centre. Tours can be booked by phone or online using the contact information for ‘Visit Cambridge’ given above. Tours meet at the Visitor Information Centre on Mondays and Thursdays at 2.30 and then walk to Corpus Christi. Alternately, we can arrange for a private tour of the library for you or your group by appointment. Simply call us directly or contact us via email, rates are available upon enquiry.

Library Exhibition Area, St John's College

 Opening hours 2017:

Monday to Friday: 09:00 - 17:00

Closed: 25 August, 28 August and 22 December - 1 January inclusive.


 Exhibitions from the College’s collections are usually displayed in the Library Exhibition Area, located between the Old Library and the Working Library (on entering the Working Library turn left and walk through the reference section and periodicals area).

Current exhibition (until 22 September 2017): Exploring land, sea and stars: Johnians and their maps.
Next exhibition (2 October - 21 December 2017): 'A Golden Age': St John's College and the Restoration.

Pepys Library, Magdalene College

Monday to Friday:  14:00-16:00, including Bank Holidays

Saturday:               11:30-12.30 and 13:30-14:30

Closed: 21 June 2017, 10 September 2017 - 1 October 2017

Monday to Saturday:  14:00-16:00

Closed: 20 December 2017 - 4 January 2018


 Groups of 10 or more should arrange a pre-booked tour of the library, for which there is a charge, using the email address provided. Children under the age of 6 years old are not admitted due to the nature of the library room. The library is situated on the first floor of an historic building.  Regrettably, due to the age of the building, there is no lift access to the library.

Wren Library, Trinity College

Monday to Friday: 12:00 - 14:00 (last admission 13:50)

Open on Saturdays from 29 April – 10 June, 10.30 - 12.30 (last admission 12:20)
